Launch of Blakehay@Home

PRESS RELEASE 08/02/2021

Forget the National Theatre at Home or The Shows Must Go On online performances, The Blakehay Theatre, in Weston-super-Mare, is delighted to bring online performances from the Blakehay Theatre stage as part of our Blakehay@Home series!

After being awarded a grant from the ‘Culture Recovery Fund’ in October 2020, the theatre has been fortunate to be able to purchase the equipment to be able to record quality performances from the theatre to stream online.

Filmed just before Lockdown 3.0 the first stream will be premiered free of charge on Sunday 14th February at 8pm, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
This stream features local musician and singer Simon Newton, with a set of songs for everyone to enjoy. The film will be shown on both the theatre’s Facebook Page and on the theatre’s new dedicated You Tube Channel Blakehay at Home where you can view the trailers now.

In a year where the arts have suffered the devastating impact of the pandemic, the theatre has reached out to it’s audience online, through the ‘Virtual Blakehay Theatre’ since March 2020 and, last month, won ‘Theatre of the Year!’ at the South-West Prestige Awards in recognition of this online work.

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon and local businesses not able to open and people not able to go out, the theatre has taken their desire to ‘Support Local’ and teamed up with local businesses in Grove Village area to offer amazing deals for Valentine’s Day. We are inviting everyone to grab a take out, wine, flowers from a local business and sit back and watch this free film.

‘we have always had a strong want to support local at the theatre, and this pandemic has bought this message to the forefront. We are delighted to be able to film performances from the theatre stage when we are unable to welcome people into the building. This will be the first film and once restrictions ease we will be able to film more performances for people to enjoy from the comfort of their home featuring both local and national artists and performers.’
Sally Heath, Theatre Manager
