News Update 17/01/22
It is with a heavy heart that we have had to postpone the re-opening of the theatre.
This is due to reasons outside of anyone’s control and everyone has been working hard to be able to hit our planned re-opening dates. Unfortunately, to be able to give everyone as much notice as possible, we have had to make the decision to slightly delay our re-opening of the theatre.
We are currently working with all contractors, staff, hirers and companies to reschedule all of the planned open days and performances that are affected.
As soon as we can confirm new dates, we will update our posts here and on our social media.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we will be open as soon as it is physically possible to do so.
News Update 21/12/21
Unfortunately due to a slight delay in the completion of our Building work, we are delaying the reopening of our studios.
As soon as we have a date for the reopening of our studios we will let you know here.
News Update 03/12/21
Due to all of the current uncertainty surrounding the new Covid strain, we just wanted to re-assure you that we are still on track for re-opening in January 2022 as planned. However, if anything changes we will let everyone know as soon as we have any news.
News Update 16/11/21
Please see our separate post regarding our re-opening.
We would just like to ‘Thank You’ for all of your support and understanding whilst the theatre has been closed. We are thrilled to be re-opening the theatre and are looking forward to welcoming you back to our beautiful theatre to enjoy live performance again.
News Update 30/09/2021
We are delighted to announce that we have a plan for our re-opening of the Blakehay Theatre in January 2022, with our studios re-opening for our community classes from week commencing 10th January and our first main house performance at the end of January.
We will also be holding some Open Days at the theatre during week commencing 17th January 2022 (dates to be confirmed) so that you will be able to come and have a look at all of the changes we have made to the theatre. (We will be able to confirm all of these dates by the end of November 2021.)
We have been in touch with all of our companies that would like to bring classes and shows to the theatre and we are delighted that we will have new opportunities and shows coming to the theatre in 2022, as well as our postponed shows from 2020/2021 and returning companies from 2019.
We will start to launch all of our new shows for sale from week commencing 11th October 2021, with tickets available online or at Weston Museum to purchase for these amazing shows. So please do keep checking our website and social media so that you do not miss out on shows that you would like to see.
We will be producing an interim printed What’s On Brochure in October/November 2021, so that you will be able to catch up on all of the amazing shows we have planned for 2022, and hope to have a pop up box office in different places around the area where you will be able to come and see us.
We will also be releasing our ‘See It Safely’ Campaign across our social media and website so that you can see all of the measures that we will have in place at the theatre once we re-open.
What if I have tickets for a show that was postponed?
Don’t worry, your tickets are safe and we will be in touch by the end of the year with all ticket holders to chat with you about the new dates and issue new tickets.
We would like to say a huge Thank you to you all for your support and understanding throughout this time. It has been a difficult time for everyone and we hope to bring you a bigger and better Blakehay Theatre that you will create many happy memories for you in the future.
We can’t wait to see you at the theatre in 2022.
As you are aware, we have been closed since 17th March 2020, and although we have managed to open tentatively at the end of 2020, we have not been able to work at full steam. We were delighted when we were successful in our application to the Culture Recovery Fund and were awarded a grant for the theatre in October 2020.
With this money, not only have we been able to produce our Blakehay@Home online productions and our Outside events, the majority of the grant was for the theatre to be Covid safe for re-opening with the installation of our new Ventilation system in both our Main House and first flor studios.
Whilst we have been closed we have also been able to completely re-wire all of the electrics in the building, deck our courtyard space with a secondary ramped entrance into our Theatre Bar, Split up our two large backstage dressing rooms to make four more efficient dressing rooms and install a new downstairs backstage toilet.
However we are delighted to say that all of this amazing work is now near completion and we have a been able to put together a plan for re-opening our beautiful building once more.
News Update 26/07/2021
We are delighted to announce that we are very busy working on some amazing shows for 2022! With a flood of enquiries over the last few weeks, we are very excited to bring you some new and returning faces to the Blakehay Theatre in 2022.
We are currently working on a new filming project for our Blakehay@Home Series that we hope to launch in the Autumn 2021 and are also working on several events with partners for September 2021 as part of our Blakehay On Tour Series. Please keep an eye out for these on our website and social media.
After receiving the updated Government Guidance on re-opening last week, we are currently working on plans to be able to re-open the theatre in the safest way possible. Therefore, we will be launching our ‘See it Safely’ campaign in the run up to our re-opening, so that all of our patrons will feel comfortable and assured when we are able to welcome you back. This is a nationwide scheme being run by theatre’s all around the country and we will launch this as soon as we have a confirmed re-opening date, so please do keep an eye out on our website and social media for news.
Further to a site meeting last week, we have been informed by our contractors that we should have a firm completion date of our Building Works the week commencing 16th August 2021. As soon as we receive this, we will then be able to work out when we will be able to re-open the theatre and we will let you know here.
However, they are currently working to an estimated completion date of November 2021, and so all of our companies that have performances booked before this month, have been contacted and we are awaiting confirmation of new dates from them. As soon as we receive this news we will ensure all ticket holders are informed and that all tickets will be secure for the new date and all of our shows are updated. Please do get in contact with us if you have not received an email from us by the end of August 2021.
Due to this information, as our staff have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic and so that we do not have any delay in re-opening the theatre to you, all of our staff will be taking their Annual leave from Thursday 29th July to Sunday 15th August 2021 inclusive. This will mean that our phone lines nor emails will be manned during this time, but will be replied to on our return on Monday 16th August 2021. However, we will still be sending out our Monthly E-Newsletter as usual at the end of the month and our social media will still be active.
We thank you for your patience and understanding and we hope that we will be able to bring you exciting news of our re-opening soon.
News Update 02/07/2021
The sun is shining and we are feeling much more positive and so we have changed this post from ‘Blakehay Closure Updates’ to ‘Re-opening Updates’!
We are hoping that we will receive news this month from Central Government on how we will be able to re-open the theatre. We are also hoping to have news from our contractors with a confirmed completion date on our building works!
Once all of this information has been received we will be busy behind the scenes making sure that we are able to open safely once again and we will be in touch.
News Update 21/06/21
We would just like to say a huge Thank you to all everyone who supported our ‘Comedy at the Quarry’ events this weekend. The weather on Saturday evening was very damp and in true British spirit everyone stayed and looked like you had an amazing time.
We hope that everyone who attended had an amazing time and we hope to be able to bring you more events in the future and of course welcome you back to the Blakehay Theatre as soon as we can open our doors. Thank you for your support of the Blakehay Theatre during these times.
We would like to thank the Culture Recovery Fund for giving us the grant in order to be able to put on this amazing weekend, Weston Civic Society for their support in letting us use the Quarry for this event, Vesta Production for all their hard work in production, The Stable for their support in supplying the bar services and delicious food, Genius events for supplying the amazing comedians, The Lions Club for supplying marshals for the event and Weston-super-Mare Town Council and wider services for their support in helping to secure the grant and bring this to Weston-super-Mare.
We hope that this will be the first of many events that we are able to put on in this beautiful part of Weston-super-Mare. We are hoping to be popping up around the town for more events this summer so please do look out for ‘Blakehay On Tour’.

Further to the Prime Minister’s announcement this week and the delay in of 4 weeks to moving to Step 4 of the Government Roadmap.
Once we have confirmation from Central Government of any restrictions that might be in place once we enter Step 4 (July 2021) and we are able to confirm the re-opening of the theatre after our Building Works, we will be in touch directly with all of our patrons. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Blakehay Theatre soon.
In the meantime, we are going ‘on tour’ where we will be popping up at events around Weston. Our first event is ‘Comedy at the Quarry’ this weekend with a top line up of comedians (18th & 19th June 2021) and we are so thankful to bring you live performances once again.

At present we are awaiting a completion date for the works and when we will be re-opening, but we will keep you up to date and as soon as we know we will let you know.

News Update – 29/04/21
We are delighted to announce that after receiving funding from the Culture Recovery Fund, that we have now appointed contractors and the building works at the theatre will be starting next week. This has been a complicated process and with such an old building, we are grateful that a way has been found in order to be able to complete the works requested. The works will mean that the theatre will be covid safe and secure for when we re-open, as well as some amazing upgrades, that will benefit the future of the theatre.
This will mean a delay in our re-opening of the building, and as soon as we have a firm completion date, we will let you know. However, we are busy working on some outdoor events at present and hope to be able to bring you the Blakehay Theatre in a different way, details will be released very soon!
News Update – 24/02/21
Further to the Prime Minister announcement on Monday 22nd February 2021, releasing the proposed Roadmap out of the latest National Lockdown, we have been working hard on what this means for the theatre and shows that we have booked in.
We are currently working through the roadmap and will be talking to all companies and producers to be able to work through all of the information. As soon as we have news on our plans we will update you all.
News Update – 05/02/21
Due to the National Lockdown in place, the theatre remains closed at this time. This does not mean that we are not still working behind the scenes and so please do get in touch, if you need anything.
We are really busy making plans for when we re-open and are taking bookings for new shows all of the time, so we will be back bigger than ever as soon as it is safe to do so.
We are delighted to announce that thanks to our award of money from the Culture Recovery Fund, we have been able to purchase filming equipment for the theatre. Just before this lockdown we were able to film our first performance and we will be announcing the premiere of this soon.
We hope to see you soon!
News Update – 09/12/20

News Update – 01/11/20
We were hoping to bring you exciting news of our studios re-opening from 2nd November 2020 to new and exciting Community classes. Unfortunately, with the announcement from the Prime Minister last night the theatre will be closing on Wednesday 4th November.
We hope to re-open our studios as soon as possible and hope that this will be in early December 2020, however, we will keep you updated with any news as soon as we know.
In the meantime, our staff will be back working remotely and we will be working hard to bring you our Virtual Blakehay Theatre once again.
If you are planning an online class, performances or quiz, please let us know and we will happily advertise these for you on our website and Social media.
News Update – 03/09/20
As you know, Central Government allowed theatres to re-open on 15th August 2020 with indoor performances. Unfortunately, due to social distancing measures still needed to be in place, this has meant that it is not financially viable for both theatres or companies to be able to do this. With our little theatre this would be a drop to only a 12% capacity in our main house at a 2m distance and only 25% at a 1m distance. Therefore, our companies feel that with this dramatic drop it is only viable to perform once social distancing measures are lifted. We are happy to say that all of our summer 2020 productions have been postponed to 2021 with tickets still available.
As you may be aware, we have applied for the government ‘Theatre Recovery Fund’ and so until we hear if we are successful with this grant, our doors will unfortunately remain closed. If we are successful we will be informed on Monday 5th October 2020 and we will share the news as soon as we know. If we are successful, then we have lots of exciting projects planned to bring you live theatre once again from the Blakehay Theatre but in the meantime , please keep your fingers crossed!!
We are delighted to say that from next week our staff will be back working inside the building, this will be behind closed doors for now, but it will be lovely to see all of our staff back, even if it is just a few days per week. We will be putting together a plan to be able to continue bringing you our Virtual Theatre throughout the Autumn/Winter season and be ready for when the government guidance changes to say that we are able to re-open fully.
We have done our best to contact everyone who had tickets for our productions at the theatre, but if you have not heard from us, then please do email firstname.lastname@example.org with your booking name, show details and your contact email so that we can keep you up to date with any changes. Anyone, who has bought tickets for our shows, will be contacted as soon as we can confirm that these performances will go ahead and issued with new tickets. If you have any problems or concerns please do email us.
Again, thank you for your understanding, patience and support and we hope to be welcoming you back into our beautiful building soon.
News Update – 17/07/20
We just wanted to update you on where we are with the reopening of the Blakehay Theatre and what our current plans are. We are delighted to say that from 1st July, our staff are back in the theatre working from behind closed doors to get the theatre ready for when we are can reopen.
As you are aware, the government have just announced that theatres will be able to reopen from 1st August 2020. However, as we write this, the updated guidance is yet to be released and it seems that this will be for a socially distanced audience only. Being a small venue, we do not feel that we will be able to financially open the doors to audiences until we are able to welcome a fuller audience into our main house.
However, we will be busy reading and getting our head around the guidance so that we are ready to open as soon as we are able to.
Not only this, but the government also released the guidance in which to reopen dance studios from 25th July 2020, which we are lucky enough to have a beautiful first floor studio where we have many weekly community classes from dance to yoga. Therefore, we have also been reading up on this guidance and been in communication with the providers of these classes.
There are many health and safety considerations to undertake, and being an old building some of these are proving challenging to overcome, but we will not reopen until we can ensure the safety of our patrons and staff at this time.
We have been working closely with nationwide theatre bodies and organisations as well as our local companies that work with us and have produced a timetable that we are working towards at present so that we can be ready when any announcements are made. Unfortunately this has meant that we have made the decision to postpone all of our current live performances and these are now booked in from February 2021 and we have worked with all of our lovely companies who are willing to do this. New dates have all been confirmed and all ticket holders have been informed, all tickets will remain valid for the new date and our box office staff will be in touch as soon as we can be assured that these dates can go ahead to issue your up to date tickets. We also have a great line up of new shows for 2021 and these will be announced shortly! So please do support these companies and your local theatre, by booking your tickets online. We are also planning on opening our Studio Theatre Cinema from January 2021! We also have exciting plans in development to bring our theatre to life during the Winter months but more details will be released as soon as we can!
We are currently working towards opening our doors to our wonderful patrons from the beginning of September 2020, with our Box Office, Theatre Bar and Studios open. More details on this will be released as soon as we have these in place. We hope that this will bring all of our amazing classes back into the studio and we look forward to welcoming you all back and some new people too, and you can pop in for one of our lovely cups of coffee!
We will be continuing to bring you our ‘Virtual Blakehay Theatre’ for the foreseeable future and we will keep you up to date with news as we can through our website, social media and our weekly e-newsletter.
Thank you for your understanding and support of your local theatre at this time, we hope that you are keeping safe and that we will be able to see you before too long. If you have any worries, queries or questions, please do contact us on 01934 645493 or email email@example.com where we are here to help from Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm.
News Update – 24/06/20
Further to the latest update from the Prime Minister yesterday, we wanted to update you on what is happening at the Blakehay Theatre. As you are aware, the Prime Minister is allowing venues to re-open from 4th July 2020, however we will not be allowed to have live performances or any classes from this date. Therefore, we still remain closed until we have guidance from Central Government of when we will be allowed to re-open.
However, we are busy making plans and from 1st July we will have some of our staff working at the theatre again, behind closed doors, getting your theatre ready for when we get the go ahead. We hope to plan to open up some of services to you as we are able to, and this will be done in a phased and safe way. We have been in contact with all of the companies that use our building today and if any shows from September 2020 are to be postponed we will inform you as soon as we know more so that we can ensure the best and safest experience for everyone. (Please see our website and social media for up to date information regarding postponed shows and events.)
We will be continuing to bring you our ‘Virtual Blakehay Theatre’ for the foreseeable future and we will keep you up to date with news as we can through our website, social media and our weekly e-newsletter. News Update – 28/05/20
As you may be aware, at present we currently remain closed and all of our staff are working remotely, and we are busy with a Virtual Blakehay Theatre.
We are currently in the process of devising a plan on a phased re-opening when we are given the go ahead by central government and if this is safe to do so. We are taking our staff, companies and patrons safety as the upmost priority for any steps that we take and will not rush into opening without due diligence.
As soon as we have this plan and all of our risk assessments in place we will be sharing this with all of our companies that use our building, the timescales on this will need to be flexible as we are in a state of flux but we will endeavour to get back up and running as soon as it is safe to do so.
We have spoken to all of our companies that had shows booked in before September 2020 and these have all been postponed for later in the year or 2021. Some of our Autumn season performances have also decided to postpone until 2021 so that they can ensure the best and safest experience for everyone. (Please see our website and social media on information regarding postponed shows.)
Thank you for your understanding and support of your local theatre at this time, we hope that you are keeping safe and that we will be able to see you before too long.
News Update – 13/05/20
Further to the announcements by central government this week, we would like to inform you that nothing has changed at the theatre and we are still currently closed as a building and continuing with our Virtual Theatre and events online.
However, we are looking at plans as to how we will re-open in the future, but be rest assured that we will not re-open at any level until we can make the theatre safe for our staff, patrons, performers and producers. As soon as we know more and we are able to give you a fixed date of return we will update you.
In the meantime we are in constant communication with all of our producers and hirers regarding upcoming events and will inform you through email, our weekly newsletter, website and social media of any changes to any current events and shows.
Thank you for your support and understanding at this time and we hope you are keeping well and safe.
News Update – 06/05/20
We hope you are all staying safe and well.
The team are still hard at work during this time and we are in constant contact with all of our producers regarding our re-scheduled shows. Please do keep up to date with new re-scheduled dates as we are constantly reviewing the situation and moving shows around. All up to date information can be found on our website, Facebook page and through our weekly newsletter.
Please be rest assured that all tickets purchased are and will be valid for all re-scheduled shows, and we are emailing all those that have bought tickets as soon as we know any new dates or if anything changes. If you have bought tickets for shows and not received an email from us, this maybe that our customer records are not up to date, so please do contact our box office at email@example.com with any concerns or your up to date email address so that we can keep in contact.
At present the team is working with other UK theatres on plans and ideas of how we can get the theatre up and running safely as soon as possible, however this is just in the research stages at the moment and we will not open until it is absolutely safe to do so.
We hope you are enjoying our online ‘Virtual Blakehay Theatre’ and we are constantly updating this, so please let us know if we have missed anything. We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support during this time. We are missing you all and hope that we will see you at the theatre as soon as we can.
