Sunshine Productions are delighted to announce that we have been chosen as the ‘in house’ production company at the Blakehay Theatre.
Sunshine Productions was formed in 2012 to present the first amateur production of the wonderful stage show ‘Calendar Girls’ in Weston super Mare Somerset at the prestigious Playhouse Theatre. A ‘hand picked’ cast was assembled to perform Tim Firths very moving stage production of the famous hit film.
‘Calendar Girls’ took to the stage for just two wonderful performances on Saturday 1st September – being the very first day the show could be performed – and played to over 1000 people. The show raised £5600.00 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the rave reviews and audience feedback persuaded us we must do another show!
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS:
What came next was the special 30th. Anniversary production of the cult hit musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. This time the company moved to the fabulous Blakehay Arts Centre/ Theatre in Weston s Mare. Again a specially invited group of performers were invited to be in the company. Once again the show received stunning reviews and acclaim from the audiences and theatre critics and also picked up some award nominations !
The formula for Sunshine Productions was now established. We would look for unusual / rarely performed shows, be they musicals or plays etc., and invite local and regional performers to join us. What would we do after ‘Little Shop’ – that was the question?
After a break of a few months one of the members of the ‘Sunshine’ team sent an e mail around the group to say that the West End & Broadway hit musical ‘Avenue Q’ had become available….our choice was made!
Our application form went straight in…and we got the show! Again ‘Sunshine Productions’ was at the forefront in obtaining little gems and they did not come much better than being one of the first societies in the whole country to perform AVENUE Q!
Bringing this show to life was one heck of a challenge – for the whole team. We had to design and build our own set as nothing was available to hire, actors had to become puppeteers, costumes and props had to be made and all within 12 weeks.
The show was a sell-out success and the rave notices and standing ovations spoke for themselves. The company had done it again!
ADDAMS FAMILY – The Musical
Sunshine Productions were once again successful in obtaining the fantastic Broadway musical ‘Addams Family’. This really was a feather in our cap and we played to packed houses and critical acclaim every night at the Playhouse Theatre Weston s Mare.
BONNIE & CLYDE – The Musical
Sunshine Productions seems to make a habit of obtaining the South West Premier of shows and our last show was no exception. Bonnie & Clyde was presented at the Blakehay Theatre on 18th – 21st Feb 2015. to rave reviews and sell out audiences.
ROCK OF AGES – June 2016
In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA’s most famous rock club and they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s ROCK OF AGES, an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits such as Don’t Stop Believin’, Dead or Alive, We Built This City, I Wanna Know what Love Is and The Final Count Down. Don’t miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on!
GOODNIGHT MR TOM – February 2017
Set during the dangerous build up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mr Tom follows young William Beach, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and forges a remarkable and heart warming friendship with the elderly recluse, Tom Oakley. All is perfect until William is suddenly summoned by his mother back to London.
Michelle Magorian’s wonderfully uplifting tale is brought gloriously to life in this magical stage adaptation by David Wood.
